The Artist:

Kris creates and teaches art in many forms. She works in a variety of media including, watercolor, acrylic, and oils; custom designed beaded and copper jewelry; hand-made paper; lithographs. She has taught beading, drawing, color theory and design, and watercolor for more than 25 years. One of her favorite techniques is micro macramé and she will be here to teach three wonderful classes for us.

Please visit her web site for more information about her. She has published three books on micro macramé that you may want to look at before the class: The All New Micro Macramé (It’s Not 1970 Any More), The 2nd All New Micro Macramé (It’s Back With a Vengeance!), and The 3rd All New Micro Macramé (Let’s Mix It Up!).

Registration:

IBS subsidized workshops open to members only. There is a class maximum of 20 students. Please get your registration in early. This is “first come, first placed” event determined by the postmark on your registration form.

Materials:

Kris has kits with all the materials including focal beads for sale for each of the projects. You must order and purchase them with your registration. Kris’s kit price for each workshop is $65. The Tantrums range from $30 to $55. You may bring your own materials and beads if you choose.

Lunch:

There is a one-hour lunch break in the middle of the day. Please bring your lunch. Restaurants are nearby, however, bringing a lunch will save time…you won’t want to miss out on anything.

This necklace makes perfect use of a large focal bead. Add some flower and leaf beads to complement the large macramé leaves you will fashion and you will have a beautiful necklace.

Freeform Macrame Necklace  Oct. 19

This flashy necklace is a bit more advanced because there is no set pattern. Some experience with basic macramé knots is necessary so you will need to know the knotting techniques and will be free to design outside the box.

Supplies: Tantrum Bead by JoElla Johnson which you can choose before the class from pictures sent to us by Kris ($30-$55, her small ones will not work for this application) (or similar); C-Lon or Super-Lon macramé thread/cord; 1-3 colors of 11º seed beads; Seed beads size 8º and 6º’s in various colors; Various beads for both the fringe and strap – fire polish crystals, resin beads, furnace glass beads, spacer, etc.; Clasp; C-Flex or Soft Flex; 2 crimp beads; Hypo Tube Cement; Awl; Quilting pins; and ½” Foam core or macramé board.
